The concept started from a flat sheet of paper, the goal was to come up with a 3-dimensional solid object that is aesthetically pleasing and simple to construct. This was a very inspiring project for me I used a bunch of materials to explore the concepts. The final concept is made by a metal stamping process. A single flat metal piece can easily be turned into a 3-dimensional folded lamp.

The Industrial designer must be available to come up with some solid solutions for problems. When I started this project I had 3 goals in my mind. First, use some common materials that don’t require complicated or expensive manufacturing processes. Second, considering cost-effective design solutions that relate to shipping expenses would also increase revenue. Third, the design must deliver a solid form and have an aesthetic look.
Very early concept drawing __________________________ It requires 3 steps folding process by hand.
The final design was wrapped with various fabrics to avoid staining the product and scratches to the surface. The user can choose the different color options with numerous textile patterns to fit with their interior
The corner pleats are always the problem on the products such as wallets, couches, chairs…The pleats are just natural finishes generated by the assembly process but it lowers the quality of the products. There’s a lot of ways to ignore the pleats like folding, cutting, melting, and thermal forming. However, I wanted to come up with a solid solution that can make the corner look much cleaner and better. To avoid corner pleats, I first did some sketches and 1:1 prototyping. One of the best results that came from these sketches was crown cuts on the corner fabric then glued them towards the inside. This made it have a cleaner exterior and interior.
(1) Place the inner structures on the top of the fabric/leather (2) Cut the corner area 90 degrees and fold the upper and lower materials towards the inside (3) (4) Cut the corner area to look like a crown (5) Fold each slice properly and glue them towards the inside.
